This is a project we’ve done for Bank Saudara. They are building their main office in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. We idTECTURE are acting as appointed Interior Designer and Urbane Indonesia as the architect. One of the main feature of this building is the customized concrete block.

Bank Saudara Customized Concrete Block
It covers most of the facade and the gallery/ corridor that connects the front office block and the back office block. This Gallery functioned as a little museum to put Bank Saudara’s memorabilia from the time this institution founded in 1906 up until now.
The objective of our design for the Gallery is to incorporate our design with given architectural design (the featured customized concrete block) and to camouflage the bulky beam and column structure.

The Gallery under construction, the column and beam is not pretty.
Here are the design process from the initial design to the final design.

1. Preliminary design

1. Preliminary Design.
The display concept in this design stage in a continuous curving plan on the outer side of the galley with a shelving to put a memorabilia item on it. We use a drop ceiling to accommodate the lighting for the memorabilia and to cover the beam from human eye level. Above the drop ceiling we use a vertical wooden plank in order to camouflage the upper side of the structure column. The skylight is using a laminated clear glass, we use a perforated mdf laminate to cover skylight.

2. Revision 1
2. Revision 1.
In this stage, the architect want to show the customized concrete block on the outer side of the gallery too, so we change the display system concept from continuous to spot display system and we eliminate the vertical wooden plank above the drop ceiling. We experiment with the perforated panel pattern of the skylight, we use the customized concrete block pattern for it.

3. Revision 2.
3. Revision 2.
The decision to use wooden louver for the skylight is to control the sunlight in the Gallery. We want to have a diffuse light and to create an ambiance from the artificial light.

4. Final Design.
We’re happy with the outcome. The display system is a collaboration with a display specialist. The important thing is the design objective is achieved. We highlight the customized concrete block from the architect and camouflage the bulky structure beam from the contractor. The client need is also accommodated.
